While Dr Robby attempts to distract himself from the anniversary of his mentor's death, Dr Collins tries to push through her shift with morning sickness. After fainting at the sight of a brutal injury, 20-year-old med student Victoria Javadi fights to prove herself in "The Pitt".

Robby helps a pair of siblings navigate their elderly father's advance directive. Later, Samira fends off cops targeting a woman with a misunderstood condition, Whitaker tries to revive a patient, and Javadi discovers more about Dr McKay's complicated past.

After Whitaker struggles with a patient, Samira vows to keep him off the path that led to her own problems navigating emergency medicine. Nick Bradley's teen overdose case sets off a powder keg of emotions – as his parents cling to hope.

While helping a patient's family cope with loss, Robby struggles with memories of his mentor's final days. As the staff bets on the whereabouts of a stolen ambulance, Santos learns a hard lesson, Mel struggles with her bedside manner, and Whitaker falls victim to a psych patient known as "The Kraken".

Both Santos and Collins deal with their own moral and legal quandaries. Samira's careful approach earns praise from patients – and reproach from Robby. Javadi unintentionally upends McKay's attempts to help an unhoused patient.
